KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Students: come to class with a willingness to learn. Get out of your head, remove the earbuds, and open yourself up to new ideas.

  • Feed your creativity by making time to be bored.

  • You don’t have to “break into” the industry; you can wade in gradually by making things and seeing how far you can go. Nothing is preventing you from creating or self-publishing today. Gatekeeping doesn’t exist for the courageous.

  • You don’t need external validation to create and publish your work.

  • Create like an artist, work like an accountant.
