Officially, we’re the School of Visual Storytelling, which is kind of a mouthful. So we go by SVSLearn for short 😀 We are an online community for illustrators of all stripes. We’re here to help support you on your illustration journey!

SVSLearn got its start in 2013 with an online class and a dream! But a lot has changed since then and online education has evolved in ways we could never have imagined.

In 2024, we decided it was time for a change, and we moved our home to a new platform. Here, you can find all SVSLearn has to offer under one roof - from intensive courses, to weekly live events, to lively community discussions. This is your one stop shop for all things illustration.

While we do offer online illustration classes, we are not an accredited school, and we do not have a degree program.

What we are is online resource for artists of all skill levels. Think of it as a supplement to traditional art school.

Welcome! We have several different options:

1. Join the Membership. This is a subscription that grants you different levels of access to our self-guided illustration courses, community, live events, podcast and monthly art challenge. If you are curious to see what SVSLearn is all about, this is a great way to check it out.

2. Take a Workshop. These are short, focused classes designed to target a specific skill. They run 2-3 weeks, featuring livestreams with the instructors and a built-in peer group. Our current offerings include Comic Book Creator, Watercolor Essentials, Sketch Smart, Paper Stories and Comic Covers. They run several times per year, check our website and newsletter for upcoming dates. They are not included in the Membership and are purchased separately.

3. Enroll in a Pro Class. These are in-depth, intensive classes highlighting a specific field of illustration. These classes run 9-10 weeks, featuring weekly livestreams with the instructors and a built-in peer group. Currently, our offerings include Children’s Book Pro and Graphic Novel Pro. They run once per year, check our website and newsletter for upcoming dates. They are not included in the Membership and are purchased separately.

No, that’s because the Workshops and Pro Courses have very different formats and goals from the Membership. 

The Workshops and Pro Classes were designed to be a focused exploration into a specific skill or field of illustration, with a live component for students to ask questions of the instructors for the duration of the class. 

The Membership is geared toward building foundational illustration skills through self-directed learning and community feedback. It includes live events, discussion boards, foundational classes - all under one roof! It’s the best option for ongoing, consistent illustration practice.

We accept all major credit cards via our credit card processor Stripe. For other options, please contact us at support@svslearn.com.

Once you purchase a class or membership, you’ll be able to access everything from your member account. Just log in and have at it!

Yes, all of our membership plans renew automatically, so you can continue your learning uninterrupted. If you do not wish to renew your membership, you can cancel your subscription anytime before the renewal date.

If you paid by credit card, you can cancel anytime through your member account, in your Profile under the Billing section.

If you paid with another option, just email us at support@svslearn.com and we’ll be happy to help!

If you cancel before the end of the billing period, you will continue to have access to your subscription through the end of the billing period.

Membership: The Membership is a recurring subscription, so it will automatically renew on the renewal date. To avoid any unwanted charges, you can cancel your membership subscription anytime before the renewal date. Once the renewal date has passed, please contact us within 7 days for the biannual plan and within 14 days for the annual plan to request a refund. You can always reach us at support@svslearn.com for help!

Workshops: The Workshops generally run 2 -3 weeks and are a one-time purchase. The refund policy is:

• 100% refund if you cancel by Day 1

• 50% refund if you cancel by Day 2

• No refunds after Day 2

Pro Classes: The Pro Classes generally run 9-10 weeks, and are a one-time purchase. The refund period is:

• 100% refund if you cancel by Week 1

• 50% refund if you cancel by Week 3

• No refunds after Week 3

We host Workshops and Pro Classes throughout the year. We usually do several announcements when a new class is launched. You can find out about upcoming classes by:
