Winners of the May art contest
It was a sticky situation for the contestants of our May art contest!
We thought this monthβs prompt would be fun, but instead it turned out to be very challenging. Maybe too challenging! π¬π«π
The prompt for May was to do a full page illustration of our Fairy Tale Traveler in a situation: the enemy is coming down the road and our traveler must decide whether to face the enemy, flee or hide. It was basically a choose-your-own-adventure situation.
Usually when we do Critique Arena, our judges select what they consider to be the Top 16 entries, and then our subscribers vote for the Top 2 winners.
But this time, the judges had a tough time picking enough entries to complete the Top 16, so they changed up the format to better help our students!
Instead, the judges just picked the Top 2 winners (no Top 16), and then did critiques and draw overs of various entries they selected at random. The idea was to help students visualize different options for strengthening their storytelling. Which can be super helpful even if itβs not your work being critiqued!
You can experience all the drama in the recording of the event, which is now in the subscription! But in the meantime here are the two winning entries:
This was a first time win for Ruth, and a second win for Melissa! Itβs worth noting that both have entered multiple times before winning the gold!
A big thank you to all who submitted! It was a very tough prompt but you put in the work and made it your own πWell done everybody!
Be sure to enter our June art contest for a chance to win a live art critique and all the glory πͺ
The prompt for June is to design a mischievous little character named Albert. Heβs furry, heβs fun and heβs always getting in trouble!
Entries are due June 30.
See you again in the arenaβ¦the Critique Arena!
